buildOn is breaking the cycle of poverty, illiteracy and low expectations through service and education. For the past two decades buildOn has mobilized urban youth to lift up their communities and change the world through intensive volunteer service.

buildOn launched the buildOn Afterschool Program in the Bay Area in 2002. Since then, buildOn Bay Area students have served hundreds of hours each week tutoring children, feeding the homeless and volunteering at senior citizen homes. In the 2011-2012 school year, buildOn will work with over 500 students from 16 high schools in San Francisco, Oakland and East Palo Alto.

buildOn takes almost 40 Bay Area students a year to some of the poorest countries on the planet including Haiti, Malawi, Mali, Nepal and Nicaragua to build schools. To date buildOn has built 440 schools and breaks ground on a new school every 5 days. Through buildOn, U.S. students realize their ability to change lives, including their own. 95% of buildOn youth not only graduate high school, but go onto college. Learn more at www.buildOn.org.
