Good Morning. Bali.

Coast to Coast 36 X 48" (sold)

Making Offerings...

Sifting and grinding our picked red rice from the fields...

The drying barn...
Pounding the rice to separate the grains from the stalks...
The locals pounded it with the most musical rhythmic ways...
You can see the rice separating...
Giving it a try...amusing all around...
...a little needed help...
Red and white grains...
Grinding the rice to separate the husk from the grain in a stone mortar...
Red rice separated...we ate this rice for lunch...unbelievable.

Picking stalks of rice and learning...

Harvesting Rice...

Today we spent the day learning about harvesting rice...you can see Scott and the kids with the local "grandfather" or the community, showing them how you choose the stalks and cut them with a special sharp blade.
The rice is put into bundles such as this...

...and then pounded together to form a tight shape and tied with a blade of grass.
The bundles are put together and layered on these bamboo shelves.

...and then moved up into this rice storage barn to dry for days.
