Tea in my mason jar...

Childrens of Shelters Auction...

I have been asked by Childrens of Shelters and SB Fine Art (along with ten other fun artists) to donate a painting to raise money for their organization. They chose this one and I am hoping there are some great bidders out there as it is such an incredible cause. To read more about it, please click on the link above. The evening event is called Jingle & Mingle and one can buy tickets on line for the evening event on their link.

This painting is called:
"The Ocean Life"
16 X 12"

Hope to see you there!

A visit to Karen Smidth's and Rae Dunn's beautiful studios in Berkeley.

A few days ago I decided to give myself a creative day off and spend some time getting inspired.
I headed to Berkeley which is a part of the Bay Area I absolutely love for it's charming houses full of colour and incredible light which filters through the neighborhoods. I started off at Karen Smidth's studio - an artist I greatly admire for her stunning landscapes...

and then I buzzed over to Slate Gallery in Oakland where my dear friend Blair Bradshaw was exhibiting with some other extremely talented artists (you can check them out on line at the gallery website):

After walking along Fourth street in Berkeley which is my favorite holiday stroll, I ended up sharing a cup of tea at Rae Dunn's magical studio. She is an extremely talented and widely represented ceramicist whos work I greatly admire. We had stories to swap and a little time on our side...I toured around her space and took in all the little details and collections that mean so much to us artists.  She has a fun ritual to photograph her guests with her sweet dog Wilma (see above - clearly I had a wonderful time with her!) --- check out her incredible website/ blog and instagram page...

A perfect and wonderfully inspired day for me.

Along the Way 40 X 48"

I have painted sand dune paths for the last 18 years...I always love the feeling of walking up the dunes not knowing what is on the other side...feeling the blades of grass with my fingers and noticing the changes in their colours as the seasons pass. At my cottage on the Cape, the grasses change dramatically with the seasons...the Fall turns the grasses this shade of ochre and burnt orange...until the Spring brings back the fresh greens.

Sunrise and candlelight.

I have a ritual every morning.
It involves waking up before the sun does and lighting a few candles.
Within a few moments, a double expresso is brewing, and I sit quietly reading (or pinning for those who know me well), or sending off some texts to my East Coast friends who have already kissed the sun good morning. Usually there will be at least a couple of our rescue cats and the pup close by keeping me warm.
My daughter has an uncanny way of sensing when I arise and comes through her bedroom barn door to join me in the candlelight. Once the sun comes through the windows, she saddles up to our kitchen counter and reads to me while I make our morning fruit smoothies.
It's such a gift to wake up this way and I am always grateful for it....to have quiet and time to reflect before the day begins.

Figs...

The fig tree in my little back yard produces the most incredible fruit...fresh and ripe right off the vine.
