Open Studios October...
What a super fun weekend meeting all the incredible people taking time to visit the artists studios in my neighborhood of San Francisco...it was so nice to see paintings leave for new homes and to be reinspired for the Fall season of painting!
Thank you!

When I was about 15, I was walking out to the North Light (lighthouse)
on Block Island and came upon a glass jar with a top sealed on with wax
and a postcard inside. A message in a bottle. Literally. It blew me
away. There was a note on the postcard with a date and the jar had been
in the sea for about 5 months having come from somewhere near
Providence. It was definitely a highlight moment of my childhood out
there. Today while walking my usual morning walk on the San Francisco
Bay - I come across this piece of sea glass that I almost threw back
into the Bay ...before noticing my last name on it!!?? Angels must be
out there watching over and getting a laugh.

"Down the Beach" at the Parker Gallery in Sea Island, Georgia!
Years ago I had the great fortune of meeting Alice Parker, the owner of the beautiful Parker Gallery in Sea Island, Georgia.
Even though we have never met in person, I have loved our conversations about life, art, I adore her gallery, the artists she represents and all her intention behind opening up her space years ago. She so kindly sent me this photo she took this morning of "Down the Beach" in the window of the gallery!!!

Breathe.
I get up early. Very early. In the 4's or 5's usually.
It's the quietest time of day when I can still hear and feel the children sleeping and there is nothing in the world that lies on my shoulders except the calm around me.
I light candles, make my expresso and now am starting to pull out the watercolors to paint simple things at that hour. "Breathe" was the word of the morning.

I have been working on this landscape this week in the studio and am almost there. Getting the watercolor together with the acrylic and the right amount of water to create the loose effect is so challenging but I love the abstraction and this color combination evoking the lightness and beauty of the sea and landscape around it.
This whole series has made me so happy and it's been exciting exploring a new direction after my time on Cape Cod and weeks in the Masai Mara of Africa. So inspiring, -clearly. Both places have horizons so vast that one feels so small in the greatness of this beautiful world.

Our visit to Rae Dunn's ceramic studio...
Visiting Rae's studio is such a treat for me...yesterday after my calligraphy class I took my friend Heather to her beautiful ceramic studio in Emeryville...the white light was pouring in over her brick walls and her pieces just shone..I love taking photos the details I notice...the color of the oranges against the wood table, the color of the blue water in her sink, her quotes and words...everything is just curtaed "just so" and so simple and beautiful. I was lucky enough to walk home with one of her beautiful white ceramic bowls...
Thank you Rae...and for the sweet photo of Heather (on the left) and myself in the "studio guests du jour) chair with Wilma...

Watercolor calligraphy workshop this past weekend...
I had such an inspirational weekend both at the Silicon Art Fair and then at Nicole Miyuki's watercolor calligraphy workshop at the Handcraft Studio School which I enjoyed immensely.
She was a phenomenal teacher and such an inspiration...I now am writing with watercolors everywhere...brings such joy to use paint in the word format. My filofax with the endless "to do"s now looks a little more fun and inviting!
