Light Passing Through 30 X 32" (In the Studio)

October 13th & 14th- OPEN STUDIO 10-6PM

"Under the Sun" (sold) to a husband for his wife celebrating their 20th anniversary...

I am very very moved by this romantic gesture. This morning I woke up to an email from Jean- Claude Canfin (the owner of the Canfin Gallery) sharing a beautiful quote from the husband who purchased this piece as a surprise for his wife for their 20th anniversary---saying this,

“I gave my wife the print out of "Under the Sun" last night. She was beyond speechless and overwhelmed with emotion. She actually was not speechless, she said it was the nicest, most thoughtful thing anyone had ever done for her in her life. Wow! Grand Slam!....."

and later in the day his wife wrote me a presonal email that had me almost fall off my chair...

"Tjasa...I wanted to contact you personally to tell you that my husband purchased one of your paintings titled "Under the Sun" for me for our 20th anniversary and it is truly the most wonderful gift I have ever received (aside from my children of course)...I have admired your work for years having seen it in a gallery in Tarrytown and Block Island ...which are two of my favorite places on earth....
I was truly taken aback when I saw your exhibit on Block Island as I grew up vacationing there and couldn't believe that you had a connection to the island as well....all of your work is truly breathtaking and being in love with Block Island I feel connected to many of your pieces....
We are going to pick the painting up on Saturday and I can not wait to find the perfect spot to display it...
I hope next time you get to the East Coast I might get a chance to meet you and thank you in person..."

This is why I paint...for these moments when I hear that my landscapes touch someone out there in the same way they do for me. It's a gift to love what you do for a living and it's a gift that keep giving back.

In the details...

I have been waking up in the early hours of the mornings to run.
I wake up before the sun rises and I watch the sky slowly shift into colour. There is a strong shift in the skies and I feel blessed to witness it.
This is a photo of just a part of a larger painting that I am working on.

Golden Gate Bridge...a run across.

I had a magical morning today. My Brother has been visiting from Oregon and this being his 50th year, he wanted to check something off his bucket list. His bucket list includes 50 things he would like to do this year that are a little bit out of the ordinary from his everyday life. I love that. One of them happened to be:
To run the Golden Gate Bridge.
Having lived here since the early 90's, I have never crossed the bridge on foot. So we decided a sunrise run...it was beautiful and one of my most memorable mornings in my life. To spend time with him and cross one of the most beautiful bridges in the world.

San Francisco waterfront...

This afternoon I was down by the waterfront here in the city and these three little building have to be my favorites here. They stand out alone by the sea and the reflection of the Palm trees on their white exteriors are great. The red roofs "pop" against the blue sky...there is something so happy and joyful about them.

On Shore 48 X 50"

Everyone finds their peace somewhere. I find mine walking through the dunes heading to the sea. The unknown of what is around the corner but the excitement that goes with it. I love the feeling of the hot sand beneath one's feet , the smell of the sea and the walk to the water's edge. This is an image I will never tire of painting because it is my sense of peace.

Studio time...

Today was a wonderful day in the studio. I felt incredibly inspired and have been in the works with this dune-scape...one of my favorite images to paint.
I always loose myself along that walk and stumble upon the sea without knowing yet what is left or right of the grasses until I make it to the end of the path.

Rose Coloured Morning 40 X 42 (a gift to Elizabeth Eisenhauer)

This painting is a gift to Elizabeth Eisenhauer who has represented me for almost 15 years I think (late 90's?)...I don't even really know if that is possible, but we have been through so much together and she has been such a firm believer and supporter of my work. She has always spoken about this piece and it was more than fun to be texting with her (the only way I can reach her :-)), and to tell her that it was hers...there were a few OMG's....which was hilarious.
I love you Elizabeth and thank you for all the years, the support in my work and our friendship. Her website to see my work and all the incredible artists she represents:

One Day.

I have always loved painting on cut pieces of wood, generally discards on a construction site...it's hard for me to pass a house being built/ remodeled without poking around and asking the crew whether I can pick up the unused pieces...I think they are amused by me when I tell them I love painting landscapes on them. There is a beautiful texture to wood that comes through in the works.

This is one piece that sits on my work desk. The Sea. Always the Sea. One day I will learn to sail properly and explore the world from the waters only to return later in the season to my studio where I will paint all that I was inspired by. One day.

Edible Colour.

Inspiration...in the works.

It feels so good to be back in the studio. Months of being on the road behind a camera and capturing all the things that move me immensely...finally now to put the paintbrush in hand and feel what comes onto the canvas. This painting is deep in the works with plenty of canvas still showing through...I look forward to seeing where it takes me.

Out West.

I still say "Out West" and "Back East" being a forever East Coaster...the West Coasters say the opposite...but I will be forever an Easterner at heart...saying goodbye today and lifting off in the airplane was a tough one, but looking forward to cracking open the doors to the studio to paint my heart out and then soon enough, I will be buying yet another plane ticket - "Back East"...

End of Day...

I head back West tomorrow and my studio doors will open again next week.  I can't wait to see what pours out onto the canvas...it will hold a lot though, and I find myself intensely inspired after this incredible summer "on the road".

Walk in.

The composition and colour drew me in, I have a wonderful weakness for horizon lines. These are steps descending into a pool - a photo I took at night.

Last day of summer...

I took this walk at sunrise today celebrating the end of summer...it was overwhelmingly beautiful.

Goldenrod...

I have a weakness for Goldenrod in bloom...they are wild, free and beautiful. Everywhere I turn, I see their beautiful colour gracing a view. They smell of the earth, hold the warmth of the sun and feel like reflections of the beauty around us.
