Around the Corner (sold)

This was a super sweet surprise gift from a husband to his wife for her birthday...I am always so taken back by those thoughtful gestures of giving art as a gift.

Ferry Across.

This was my sunset view last night in Sausalito. I am endlessly grateful.

End of the Studio Day.

The swing.

This swing has seen thousands of hours of joy, laughter, happiness, moments of quiet and simply stillness. I am deeply grateful for it and for the fact that it's still the home's focus for our children who are now already 10 and 13. There is something about swings. There's no age limit to them.

A studio visit with Tracey Kessler.

I had the great opportunity of visiting my friend, Tracey Kessler's art studio yesterday in Sausalito - and I left completely inspired. Not only is she absolutely lovely person but a very talented contemporary artist.

Along with her amazing artwork on paper and canvas, her studio was filled with the most beautiful artistic collections of "found objects" - for a lack of a better word...which I took many photos of and posted just a few.  I am crazy about the most current abstract piece taped to the wall which she is working on currently. (see above.)

The beautiful raindrop piece is of her studio mate, textile designer Laura Lienhard's - nine year old son, Finn.

"Coastal Bloom" 20 X 20"

I just finished this painting today in the studio and am loving the abstract feeling of the seascape. Thick paint and color. Fresh bloom in the foreground and blues in the distance.

Words to inspire.

I love instagram. #love.

In the studio...

She's back for a studio visit!
This painting recently sold and when movers hung the piece it was damaged. Now I'm in the grasses touching up. Nice to have her back. Even for a short little while.

"Summer Slingback" 30 X 40" (sold)

I loved painting this summer series in the midst of winter...just imagining the slingback chair, towels, books to read, warm sand, the waves rolling in beside...This seascape found a home today in Westport, CT. I am very grateful and hope it inspires the same emotions during the different seasons. Best wishes!

A little bit of East Coast to remind me that summer there is around the corner.

A hint of yellow. Bolinas. California

A hint of sunshine yellow in these two buoys.
I am hoping the sun shines down on all the incredible Mothers of the world today.

"Through the Dunes" 30 X 60" (...heading to Martha's Vineyard)

This piece is being to added to a great collection that is being crated and heading to the Eisenhauer Gallery on Martha's Vineyard!)

Beachglass.

Everyday, these little bits of glass bring me so much happiness to find. It's almost a quiet morning meditation.
Over a stretch of about three miles,  I get the great fortune of seeing the sun reflect through the little gem that reflects back at me and almost ask to be picked up.
I gather them daily in my car until my nine year old daughter spots them and take them to our sea glass collection outside in the garden where they are all sorted by color.
Every so grateful for the little things.

In the works...

In Flight ...

I really love seagulls. Maybe it's because of their connection to the sea or that they are the one bird I associate with the sound of being close to the ocean. Maybe it's growing up alongside them on an Island during my happiest days of the year. Whatever the reason is, they have imprinted themselves on me. I love their simple coloring. And the occasional yellow feet. One day while nestling in by the fire in the Cape Cod cottage, I was looking through my field guide to birds in New England. I discovered that there were 55 different kinds of seagulls in the world and that their average life span is 30-40 years. The Herring Gull lives 50 years! Amazing. On the Cape where my cottage sits on Sandy Neck Bay, I love walking out to low tide and watching them play along the sea and in the sand foraging for their next meal. I was inspired to paint them in flight and hang this in my children's room in the cottage by the sea. It's a reminder to always be light on ones feet and find time to play in life.

Rosehips & Water 30 X 40"

I have always thought in my next life (or this one) that I would own a flower shop called Rosehips & Water. There is something that feels so wonderful to me about flower shops. The smells are intoxicating. Everything feels fresh. I love the piles of leaves and petals underfoot as you contemplate an arrangement. There is happiness and gratefulness attached. Anticipation abounds. We actually "stop and smell the roses". And isn't that something we need to do more often? So maybe. One day. In front of my art studio in some sweet coastal town. Colors outside with the flowers and colors inside on the canvas.

A hint of blue.
