Pike Farm, Long Island.
I have a very soft spot in my heart for farmstands...it is so hard driving by any of them without stopping. Just imagining all these beautiful shapes and colours, so freshly picked and needing to be on the table for friends and family to enjoy. Long Island is full of farmstands each one more beautiful than the next. This is my friend's favorite...Pike Farm...the nicest folks and most beautiful displays of fresh vegetables and fruit.

Love.
I love walking through cemeteries.
I love seeing the dedications, the poems, the love that exists between people even after life ends. I love the silence, the peacefulness, and I enjoy taking the time to wipe off pine needles, moss, branches off stones to be able to see peoples words which nature has covered over time.
I want people I don't even know - to feel visited.
On this particular stone, there was a lot of dried moss caught in all the letters which made the gravestone very hard to read...I started pulling the moss off and came across these words which gave me pause.
"In Tenderness and Trust"
This for me truly sums up Love.
Waterfront.
I was sitting on a porch of this charming little boat club here in the Berkshires and turned to notice this life saver with bits of rust against a chipping painted barn door. All the combined elements including the colours seemed perfect to me. I had to capture it.
Taft Farm.
I have a crush on this wonderful place called Taft Farm. I love walking into the doors of the place and seeing the fresh vegetables, baked goods and all their wonderful meals that they make in the fridges...gazpacho, chicken pot pies, eggplant parmesan...mmm. When I check out, instead of a plastic bag, I'm handed a cardboard box. It makes so much sense...everything packs nicely and wonderfully environmental and reusable. It just made me smile to look over in the passenger seat of my car and see the fresh tomatoes and basil that would be turned into a salad in a few short hours.
Edith Wharton's home...The Mount.
A truly magical home and property to walk through...just looking at Edith Wharton's writing desk and imagining her sitting there with her fountain pen and ink writing "The Age of Innocence"...
Hancock Shaker Village
In the Berkshires...this place was so unbelievably beautiful...the gardens, the old buildings with the wide plank floors and big fireplaces, the round barn, the colours of the buildings in the village...truly breathtaking. It also helped that there was this magical light throughout the place after a great East Coast thundershower.

In the little things...
I have a ritual of bringing my children down to the beach every night around sunset. We always find great treasures, big and small and think about the stories behind them...a little crab shell or a feather left behind.
Before the children's heads rest on their pillows for sleep, their feet have been in the sand and they have witnessed a very profound part of the natural surrounding beauty we are so blessed to live in. Undoubtedly more sand gets in their beds, but it's so worth those summer memories.

Truro.
Truro is a beautiful part of the Cape. I had the fortune of visiting friends there and they took me to their beach which had the stunning cliffs reminding me of Block Island. There were large sandy dunes (below) on which very old homes were perched. Hopper lived and painted here and you can really feel the influence of this stunning place on him. Sadly my camera didn't capture any of what I am trying to share but these two beach goers under their orange umbrellas with the blue sea behind them caught my eye.

Working with Nature....
There are days when I think nothing makes me happier than a walk on the beach finding treasures and finding ways to bring them life in a decorative way. The scallop shell is such an incredible form with so many varying colours. I also like broken up shells that have been smoothed down by the sea. Sometimes they are the most beautiful pieces to work with...

Mimosa Tree
This beautiful and delicate piece of nature comes from the Mimosa Tree. It's just stunning what nature brings.
